Berlinale Met Ukrainian Cinema
Ukrainian cinematography has been presented at the 58th Berlin film festival with the participation of Viktor Yushchenko’s, the President of Ukraine, wife Mrs. Yekaterina Yushchenko and the leader of “BB” band Mr. Oleg Skripka.
When addressing the guests Mrs. Yushchenko told about the Ukrainian
Film Fund created on the initiative of the International Philanthropic
Fund Ukraine-3000 headed by the first lady of Ukraine herself. She
stressed the priority of the Fund to present and promote the Ukrainian
cinematography throughout the world.
“We’re really happy that today we’ve taken one of the first important
steps to tell everybody about the Ukrainian cinematography and its
popularity”, Mrs. Yushchenko said. “We’ll keep on searching and
promoting young Ukrainian talented cinematographers meant to create the
modern Ukrainian cinema”.
Vasiliy Vovkun, the Minister for Culture and Tourism; Andrey
Khalpakhchi, the director of the Ukrainian FilmFund; Andrzej Wajda,
Polish filmdirector; Oleg Skripka, the leader of “BB” band, and other
world art workers visited the presentation besides Mrs. Yushchenko.
Over 100 people in total have visited the presentation.
The Ukrainian cinematography has been presented for the first time at
the 58th Berlin Film Festival. The Ukrainian Film Fund stand keeps on
working in the whole course of the fest where you may get a 2006-2008
Ukrainian Film catalogue, find promo-materials and trailers of domestic
movies and get information on the history and modern trends of the
Ukrainian cinematography.
Moreover, the European movie market presented five Ukrainian movies: a
full-lenfth film “In the riverside” by Yeva Neyman; and short movies
“The Strayman” by Valeriy Yamburgskiy; “The oath” by Marina Vroda; “On
the verge” by Artem Sukharyov and Nikita Ratnikov; and “The Taxi
driver” by Roman Bondarchuk.
A Philanthropic auction “The Cinematography for peace” took place in
Berlinale on Feb. 11 under the participation of Ukrainian boxing star
Vitaliy Klichko.
