Ukraine, Germany, Belarus and Russia Shoot the film about the Chernobyl accident


Ukraine, Germany, Belarus and Russia are going to shoot the feature about Chernobyl disaster. The film called “On Saturday” would be directed by famous Russian scriptwriter and director Alexander Mindadze (Parade of Planets (1984), Plymbum or Dangerous Game (1986), Time of the Dancer (1997), Space as a Premonition (2005).

Ukrainian Film “You, My Joy” In a Competitive Program Of Cannes Film Festival


Sergiy Loznitsa’s feature You, My Joy was selected to the main competition program of the festival. It is the second time when Ukrainian film participates in the official competition program of the Cannes festival in its history. The first one was a short documentary The Travelers, by Igor Strembitsky which in 2005 won the Cannes “small” “Golden Palm”.

Days of Ukrainian Cinema have started in Germany

Days of Ukrainian Cinema have opened today in the German city of Cologne, where a demonstration of more than ten movies of domestic production will take place. The program will be opened by the classic film of Sergei Paradjanov "Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors," which will be presented by Ukrainian actress Larisa Kadochnikova.

President proposed to find compromise for film dubbing and subtitling before March 4

Ukraine spent recent weeks discussing openly the collisions around foreign films dubbing-sound-subtitling for distribution in the domestic cinemas. The cinema-owners announced strike on Feb. 27 much spoken about in media. Today’s meeting headed by Mr. Yushchenko, the President of Ukraine, is apparently a response to these events.

The filming took place in Odessa and Kyiv. The intended title for the feature is “The melody for barrel organ”. The movie goes about adventures and trials of two waifs played by 12-year debutant Olena Kostyuk and 8-year Roma Burlaka.

Star Media To Film “Death To The Spies-2” Detective Story

Feb. 25 Star Media Company will begin filming an 8-series spy-military detective story “Death to the Spies-2”, scheduled to be screened on ICTV in Fall 2008 screening season. The film will be shot in the most picturesque parts of the Crimea (Koktebel, Inkerman, Bakhchisaray, Yevpatoriya etc.) and at Kyiv-based studios, the shootings will last till the late April.
